Finding Funding > Guidance on Finding Funding

Funding for community sport projects can come from a number of sources. Central government provides a key source of finance through funding streams that are determined by cross-governmental policy agendas. This funding is allocated to Local Authorities (LAs) as non-ringfenced Area Based Grants. LAs distribute these funds to delivery partners and local organisations according to the needs and priorities of their individual area.

Priority spending for each authority is informed by the Local Area Agreement (LAA) that they have in place (for more details on LAAs see the policy section of this site). There is not a single organisational structure or system that LAs work to as they each have autonomy to determine the systems which is most suitable to their area.  However all LAs have a key officer leading on enquiries on these issues.

Your LA will be able to offer guidance and signpost you to further sources of funding. In addition to LAs, you may benefit from contacting government delivery partners such as Government Offices and Regional Development Agencies.
